BEHIND THE PROJECT
WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS?
Love is a risky thing.
Love and you could be lied to, betrayed, and have your heart broken.
This is especially true, when we talk about those that really need love – the homeless, addicted, and mentally ill – anyone on the margins of society.
Love someone like this, and it’s only a matter of time until you’ll be burned.
And yet people do it.
In spite of the risk to themselves, there are people that love others.
I think that’s both beautiful and powerful!
So I’m spending my spring/summer hitchhiking the country, and chronicling the stories of the people that pick me up. I want to know their stories, and I want to know their motives.
I’m not trying to condone hitchhiking (I would not be happy if my little sisters tried it), because to an extent it is inherently risky, but that’s exactly the point – to put myself in a position that at least seems risky and then ask why.
Why did you pick me up?
